Our nation must overcome what divides us in order to solve the world’s most challenging problems. CMC is called to counter the forces that are pulling us apart with educational strategies that bring us together.

The Open Academy advances Claremont McKenna College’s mission to prepare this generation to meet the challenges of the future world of affairs and for roles of responsible leadership in business, government, and the professions.

The Open Academy develops a critical response to the educational imperative of our time: overcoming what divides us to solve the world’s most challenging problems.

Societal divisions threaten the mutual understanding, shared norms of behavior, and commitments that are so vital to the resilience of our democracy. Mending these divisions is not only a challenge of policy and politics. It is an educational imperative.

– CMC President Hiram Chodosh

CMC ranked as #1 college in the country for free speech in 2021 by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE).

In September 2021, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) released its 2021 College Free Speech Rankings that assess a school’s free speech climate based upon the opinions of over 37,000 students at 159 of America’s largest and most prestigious campuses. Claremont McKenna College was ranked #1 for free speech in the nation, with an overall score that outpaced last year’s top school, the University of Chicago.
